A Capella Groups- The Loreleis, The Noteworthies and The Howlers
West Morris Central has a long tradition of outstanding a capella groups, so come out to audition for one of the three groups in the school. These are student-led groups that meet regularly and perform both in and out of school for community events. Each group has auditions during the beginning to middle of September. The Loreleis are an all-treble voiced group, The Noteworthies are an all-bass voiced group and the Howlers are a mixed voice group. Please find information in the Choir Room (B110). Academy of Science
The Academy of Science is a club where students enjoy science and also participate in fun science labs. The students also participate in the annual regional and (hopefully) the state level New Jersey Science Olympiad. In the spring we also try to celebrate some science holidays (i.e. Earth Day and DNA day) with appropriate activities. Mrs. Bourneuf will be advising the Academy of Science for this year and will be taking a team to the Science Olympiad. Archery Club
The Archery Club is advised by Mr. Ehasz and Mrs. Spaziano. They can be reached at [email protected] or [email protected]. We shoot weekly in the fall and winter to learn basic archery form and technique. Students will also have the opportunity to compete in two tournaments in February and March, the West Morris Invitational and the New Jersey State NASP virtual tournament which allows students to compete against other high schools throughout the state with the opportunity to qualify for the Eastern National Tournament.
Art/Photography
Art club is open to all students 9-12 who are interested in learning about the world of art and photography outside of the fine arts classroom. This club explores and encourages freedom of creativity through different individual and group based projects. Projects can consist of school/public installations, collaborative pieces, independent artworks and more. Members are encouraged to contribute suggestions and ideas for projects that the club might enjoy. Art Club begins meeting in October. Mrs. Lorraine Najjar is an art teacher at West Morris Central. Astronomy Club
We don't have an astronomy class in school, and, subsequently, very little attention is paid to astronomy in science classes. Often, people who love the stars have to pursue that interest alone. Astronomy Club is a brand-new ~space~ for students to explore and develop any interest they might have in astronomy with a group of people who hold that same interest. Although members will have to be flexible due to social distancing limitations, examples of things we might do include watching space documentaries and/or movies, hearing mini-lessons from Ms. Hedden, engaging in space-related activities & demonstrations, and generally creating a space for discussion of the cosmos!
Book Club
Book Club is open to all students that are interested in reading and discussing books in a social setting. The goals of this club are to connect students who read for enjoyment with each other and broaden the type of reading done by students. In addition to reading popular works, Book Club enjoys exciting discussions of the various titles we are reading. Bowling Club
Bowling Club is open to all students grades 9-12. During the winter months, we make a weekly trip to Circle Lanes right after school and play two games. We have a total of 8 trips. This is a great club to relax, have fun with your friends and enjoy some friendly competition. Bowling trips will take place after school on Tuesdays starting in December and run through till February, as long as no cancellations due to snow. Chess Club
The big news is that Chess has been declared a “VARSITY SPORT” at West Morris and as a result anyone who meets a certain criterion is awarded a Varsity Plaque. Chess Club meets every Thursday during lunch in F135. All are welcome to attend. We hold an intra school tournament at the beginning of the school year to select the official West Morris Chess team which represents West Morris against other schools. From January to March we are part of inter school tournaments where we host and travel to other schools. Every year we also attend a state level tournament. Chinese Club
The Chinese Club introduces students to the culture, music, art, literature and history of China. Students will explore Chinese culture and history through means of various fun activities such as games, movies, calligraphy, cooking and holiday celebration! It is open to anyone who is curious to learn more about China and have fun! The club meets on Fridays bi-weekly during the lunch period in school. The advisor is Mrs. Cherry Jiang. Color Guard (Band Front)
The WMC Highlander Color Guard is under the direction of Mrs. Erica Boos ([email protected]). This group visually interprets the Marching Band halftime show music with a choreographed routine involving the use of flags, rifles, sabres, airblades, and other props. No experience is necessary to join, and all equipment is provided. The Color Guard operates in sync with the WMC Highlander Marching Band. Registration opens in the spring and closes on the first day of Band Camp. The two week long Band Camp is typically held in early August, just before the start of the school year. Practices continue during the fall, and the Color Guard performs at all football halftime shows. (Please see the information for the Marching Band written below). Debate
The WMC Debate Team is advised by Mr. Jacobsen and competes in the Northwest New Jersey Debate league. This year's topic is on Criminal Justice Reform. Drama: Central Theatre
Central Theatre is a club which produces a minimum of two shows each year. The mainstage productions include a play (non-musical) performed in November and a musical performed in March. On-stage participation is selected based on auditions. Everyone is eligible and encouraged to audition! If you are not cast in one particular show, you are still encouraged to come out for the next one, as each production has different needs. Students may also apply to be a part of the stage crew, production team, and/or sound and lighting team. Dr. Agostin is the advisor of Central Theatre, Ms. Harrington is the choreographer. Fall Cheerleading
West Morris Central Fall Cheerleading is open to all grades 9-12. Registration opens and closes the spring before each new season. Our goal is to promote school spirit and support our football program by cheering at all Varsity football games and home JV football games. FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America)
Future Business Leaders of America is a part of the National FBLA Organization which is the largest business career student organization in the world. With over 150 members each year, our Chapter at WMC is one of the largest student groups in our school. This club is ideal for any student with an interest in business who may want to pursue either a career in the business sector or obtain a business degree in college. Throughout the school year, FBLA takes several field trips - Macy's Marketing Tour in Herald Square, NYC, FBLA National Fall Leadership Conference, FBLA Regional Competitive Events and FBLA State Competitive Events and Leadership Conference. We also have three to four guest speakers per year visit our chapter during lunch to share with us their business experience, strategies, and suggestions for success. Other meetings include resume builders and how to properly dress for interviews as well as on the job. Students who wish to participate in FBLA should see Mr. Miller in C106. Annual membership dues are $20 to cover local, state and national registration fees.
Film Club
The West Morris Central Film Club provides students with an opportunity to view quality films with their peers. The films are considered with input from club members and are ultimately selected for their recognized quality. The goal of Film Club is to expose students to important films, to encourage students to develop standards of intelligent criticism, and to provide a venue to discuss films passionately. Future Educators
Future Educators Club is dedicated to learning about and fostering the desire to one day enter the field of education. This club goes on field trips to schools in the community, establishes a mentor program between a student and teacher of this school to help learn more about the nuances of the profession, and other activities which help students explore how and why the teaching profession is so rewarding. This club is run by Mrs. Ade ([email protected]) and Ms. Matkowski ([email protected]). The club meets once a month during lunch in C125.
Green Team
The WMCHS Green Team is dedicated to fighting climate change through activism and awareness. WMCHS is registered with TCNJ's Sustainable Jersey initiative, and our goal is to take steps throughout the school year to retain our standing as a NJ Sustainable School. Our work culminates in a school-wide Earth Week event in April. Members of this club also strive to increase awareness of global environmental issues and to change habits in our daily lives to minimize our own carbon footprints. This club is run by Mrs. Lisa Gizas ([email protected]) and Mrs. Bonnie Bourneuf ([email protected]). Regular meetings occur periodically during lunch, with optional participation in our many projects occurring at different times and locations.
Highlanders for Humanity Club
The Highlanders for Humanity Club is the largest community service club at West Morris Central High School. We believe service to the community is an essential part of every student's education. While community service is not required, all students are invited to participate in service projects through the various community service opportunities we offer. Activities include the following: food drive, sort and shelve food at the food pantry, campus/community cleanup, wreath making and hanging, Food Drive, Holiday Toys & Clothing drive, virtually any other community service activity you can think of! This club meets virtually once per month and service opportunities are also offered at least once per month. For the 2022-2023 school year, dues are $10.00 for new members only to cover the cost of t-shirts and supplies. I.D.E.A. Club
I.D.E.A. Club was created so that students can meet in a safe place to discuss issues related to all aspects of diversity. Learning to understand differences is a helpful tool for students to create cultures of empathy, understanding and safety. The goal is to create open respectful dialogue about differences so that we are creating inclusive, safe and respectful environments. Activities include discussions, hosting speakers and participating in educational campaigns. Meetings are held virtually- 1-2x per month. Days/Topics TBD! Inclusion Club
The Inclusion Club is dedicated to providing a safe space for all students in addition we focus on various initiatives to create a positive and safe school climate. Mrs. Ade ([email protected]) and Mrs. Cartier ([email protected]) are the club advisers. This club meets every month in C125 during lunch and sometimes holds after school events.
International/Cultural Arts Club
The International Cultural Arts Club strives to promote awareness and appreciation for Cultural diversity within our local community and beyond. Our Club is centered on three core beliefs : Awareness, Action, and Allyship. We have been instrumental in organizing a collection drive for refugees affected by the crisis in Ukraine and most recently hosted a "Friendsgiving" luncheon for our international students and friends at WMC. The ICA club encourages students to participate in service outreach opportunities and foster international mindedness in a variety of engaging and enriching activities. Jam Club
Advised by Mr. Ehasz ([email protected]), Mrs. Daly ([email protected]), Mr. Takacs ([email protected]), and Mr. Coiro ([email protected]), Jam Club is a time to share musical creativity. The club is open to all instruments and all ability levels! Once a week during lunch, we will meet to play mutually agreed upon songs in an open jam session format. The only requirement is that you bring an acoustic instrument and a willingness to learn a few songs. At each jam session we will present the theory behind the music to find out what makes these songs so great so you can build your own musical abilities.
Literary Magazine
Literary Magazine, commonly referred to as "Lit Mag," is a club that allows students to share their original writing with their peers in a supportive environment. The club meets twice a month or more. Run by students, meetings focus on constructive criticism in a positive manner. Students can bring all types of writing including poetry, narrative, and shorter pieces of larger works. In early spring, students are highly encouraged to submit at least one piece to Echoes, the school's literary magazine. Advisor Mrs. Michele Pastore can be reached at [email protected], though most of the communication and meeting updates are handled by student leaders.
Math League
Math League is open to all students who are interested in math and would like to challenge their skills in a state-wide competition. There are six New Jersey Math League Competitions held throughout the year. Each competition consists of six questions that range in both complexity and mathematical focus. Our school's score is the sum of the five highest scores. The names of the top five finishers for each contest are submitted to the New Jersey Mathematics League Organization. The state-wide scores are published in a monthly newsletter. The two top overall West Morris Central finishers are acknowledged at an awards assembly at the end of the school year. National History Club
History Club is open to all interested students grades 9-12 who have an affinity for history and would like to further their knowledge and experience with local, state, and national history. The club's activities include field trips, holding voter registration drives, honoring veterans, attending lectures by prominent historians, and volunteering opportunities. Ms. Duddy ([email protected]) and Ms. Mary Beth Davis ([email protected]) are teh advisors. The History Club can be whatever you want to make it, so come and get involved!
National Honor Society
The West Morris Central Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization that recognizes outstanding high school seniors who have demonstrated excellence in the four pillars of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Eligible students, those who have maintained at least a 3.6 unweighted cumulative GPA or a 4.3 weighted cumulative GPA, are invited to apply for membership in NHS after the conclusion of their junior year, usually by the end of July. Students are expected to participate in several service projects, attend monthly meetings, and maintain their commitment to the four pillars of the organization to maintain membership. Newspaper
The Paw is West Morris Central's official school newspaper. The Paw is printed and handed out several times a year. The class also produces a graduation magazine especially for seniors and a "Welcome Freshmen" issue that is distributed at freshman orientation. In addition to the print issues, the staff also keeps the school's online newspaper website updated regularly.
The job of The Paw staff is to report on everything that goes on both in and around WMC, from hard news stories to sports features and more! Visit The Paw online and look out for print copies on designated stands around the school. All students are encouraged to join The Paw staff to talk and write about what is important to them! Mrs. Kisatsky is an English teacher who teaches Journalism I, II, & III and advises the journalism club. Mrs. Kisatsky can be reached at [email protected]. Project Peace
Project Peace is a club designed to work on school climate related topics. The club is open to all grades and works on a variety of activities, campaigns and discussions that are geared to foster respect, compassion and kindness. Some of the past activities include- Week of Respect, Laugh More Stress Less, Mental Health Awareness and Leadership Trainings. This club meets 1-2x per month Room and Dates TBD. Reach
Junior Reach is open to juniors who are interested in making a 2 year commitment of helping students acclimate to the high school environment. The activities include: visits to the LVMS, assisting in Freshman Orientation and helping with our Previews Program. Our goal is to help all students through leadership activities that provide support and that will positively affect school climate/culture.

Senior Reach is a peer leadership program where the senior leaders continue to turnkey the values of determination, integrity, compassion and resilience. The peer leaders will assist in creating a positive school culture by inspiring their peers to rise above issues and learn to create a culture based on respect and positivity. Past activities include: Week of Respect, Freshman Orientation, Previews Program, Back to School Night and assisting in Freshman Health Classes. Relay for Life
Ms. Debbie Gonzalez is the Relay for Life advisor. Ms. Gonzalez has been an advisor for 16 years. Relay is an activity formed to raise both money and awareness in the fight against cancer. This group is student run and directed. Students take on Chair positions as Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. In Mendham High School all of these positions are mirrored and students from both WMC and WMM work together in the only district wide club. Freshman can participate as members of committees and also on teams for the actual event as can any of the student body. We run events throughout the year that range from coffee houses to the all night Relay for Life event itself. Ms. Gonzalez email is [email protected].
Science League
Science League is a club where students explore different science specialties not covered in the science curriculum. During our meetings we perform labs, discuss science issues, and bring in professionals to talk with us. Our first guest speaker was an engineer working at SpaceX. The club aims to promote scientific literacy, engage students in current scientific fields, and fundraise for scientific research. The Science League's advisors are Mrs. Bourneuf ([email protected]) and Dr. Kayal ([email protected]).
Select Choirs
The Select Choirs, also known as Tuesday Night Groups, will include two audition-based choirs, the Treble Chorus and the Concert Choir. The singers will perform higher-level repertoire in a chamber setting every Tuesday evening between 5:30 - 7:30pm, starting in September. The Treble Chorus will perform SSAA music with the chance for all treble voices to sing in 4-part harmony repertoire ranging from modern choral music to Renaissance pieces. This group will meet from 5:30-6:30pm. Auditions will usually take place in mid-September and the group may perform at various times during the year. The Concert Choir will be an SATB ensemble (men and women) that performs both a Capella and accompanied music from a wide variety of genres. This group will meet from 6:30-7:30pm with auditions usually taking place mid-September. The Concert Choir may also perform at various times during the year. Service Learning Club
The Service Learning Club provides students with the opportunity to participate in community service programs throughout Morris County. This club is open to all students in every grade. Students do not have to participate in every activity to be in this club. Some of the activities that we do are visits to local retirement centers to provide interaction with clients, serve food to needy families at the Community Soup Kitchen in Morristown NJ, assist with local senior resource facilities, walkathons and more. We are also able to assist students who are looking for individual volunteer work in the community to fulfill a requirement or just to enhance their high school learning experience. Most of the club trips happen during the school day. There are some activities on weekends that students can participate in as well. Individual service opportunities are typically after school hours. The advisors for this club are Mrs. Joanna Cangemi and Mrs. Jill Quabeck. We meet the first Tuesday of every month at the beginning of lunch in room F127. Ski Club
Ski Club members have the opportunity to take 5 trips to Camelback Mountain on Thursday nights starting the first week in January (weather permitting). A coach bus is taken to the mountain so we are typically limited to 50 openings. Sign-ups are typically held after school in October and will be announced when all costs are confirmed. Skiers must pay a transportation fee for the bus and purchase a ski pass through our club. The advisor is Mr. David Ehasz ([email protected]).
Sound/Lighting
Sound & Lighting is a club for students interested in the production and behind-the-scenes elements of events. Students learn how to program the auditorium lights and sound system and work on tech crew for events such as Central Theatre, music concerts, Mr. Central, Battle of the Bands, etc. Paid gigs are also available for club members who gain experience by first volunteering for other school functions.
Stage Craft
Stage Craft is open to all students in grades 9-12 who are interested in learning about prop construction and stage design for the fall drama and spring musical. This club works with the members of the drama and musical to create pieces and props used on stage by performers. Projects can consist of light woodworking to large scale painting to paper/fabric sculpture and more. Stage Craft will begin meeting shortly after the rehearsals begin for the fall drama and the spring musical. There is also a Stage Craft/Tech Theatre class available that students can take during the day to earn credit for their participation! (No experience necessary!). STARS is a social skills group that meets twice a month. Our goal is for students to interact with typical peers where they gain social interactions, confidence, engagement and friendships.
STARS is dedicated to promoting social inclusion and having students with varying abilities partner in games, crafts, cooking and member created activities.

STEM (Technology) Club
The STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) club goes beyond the classroom and gives students the chance to pursue academic challenges among friends with similar goals and interests. We participate in VEX Robotics Competitions in teams of students who have built and programmed the robots. We also work on independent projects and competitions involving coding. The STEM club is open to all students of all abilities and meetings will be held 1-2 times a week after school. The advisors are Mr. Takacs ([email protected]) and Mr. Coiro ([email protected])

The objective of Student Council is to act as a liaison between the student body and the administration, and to serve as a forum for, and representative of, the students in student related administrative decision making. Further, it shall act to develop student leadership, encourage cooperation and spirit among students, faculty, and the administration, and promote the general welfare and unbounded success of the greater West Morris Central community.

Senior class council is a group of individuals elected by their peers. Junior Class Council Class of 2024
Junior Class Council is a group of individuals elected by their peers. With the help of their advisors, they are responsible for planning and implementing events such as homecoming, class fundraisers, spirit week festivities, and junior/senior prom. The current officers are as follows: President-Julia Ciccone, Vice President-Michael Ferry, Secretary-Isabel LaSpina, Treasurer-Mackenzie Flammer. The advisors are Mr. Landshof and Ms. Seitz. Sophomore Class Council Class of 2025
The Sophomore Class officers work collaboratively with the Student Council and other Class Councils throughout the year to promote various activities and events. These activities and events provide fun and entertainment, as well as fundraising opportunities, for any and all WMC students.
Events and activities include: the Activities Fair, Spirit Week, various fundraisers, as well as surveying their peers for ideas about activities that they would be interested in hosting. The Sophomore Class Officers are: President-Donovan Veletto, Vice President-Paytyn Crisp, Secretary-Max Jasper, Treasurer-Dede Elghazaly. The Sophomore Class Advisor is Ms. Dana Harrington.
Freshman Class Council Class of 2026
Freshman Class Council is a group of individuals elected by their peers. With the help of their advisors, their main responsibility is to promote class spirit and to take part in various class activities. In the past, the freshman class has been responsible for the Valentine's Day flower sale. The Freshmen Class Officers are: President-Thomas Borgia, Vice President-Jake Garofalo, Secretary-Zoe Kractochvil, Treasurer-Marc Carames. The advisors for the Class of 2026 are Ms. Katiann Critchley and Ms. Kathryn Patella.
Students for Social Justice Club
This new club has a very specific mission in mind: to create a safe space (judgment-free) for all students to educate themselves on human rights issues throughout the world, contemporary politics, and current events related to social justice and activism.
Each month, we will educate ourselves on a different topic/movement/person etc. through student led/club member research and presentation. This is NOT a debate club, but rather creates the opportunity for everyone to talk about issues they are passionate about. The faculty advisor is Mrs. Ade ([email protected]). Meetings will be held once a month. Students can join at any time throughout the year.
Volleyball Club
The Boys Volleyball Club will meet once a week in the evenings from 5:30-7:00pm on Thursday evenings, running from the beginning of April to the end of May. There will be an emphasis on skills training as well as simply playing games. The students will be taught the basic skills of passing, setting, attacking and serving as well as moving later to defensive strategies, serve-receive and various formations.

WMC Jazz Band
The Jazz Band is an extracurricular, audition only musical ensemble. We perform a mix of jazz, rock, and funk at two concerts every year, using the standard Big Band instrumentation including all saxophones, trombone, trumpet, guitar, bass, piano, and drums. Our rehearsals occur on Wednesday nights from 6pm-8pm after an audition in November. All audition materials will be provided. In weekly rehearsals we emphasize developing individual and group style, we explore improvisation, and we expand our jazz education by learning about famous artists and listening to jazz standards. The Jazz Band director is Mr. Mick Gibbons ([email protected], X3746).
WMC Marching Band
Marching Band is a co-curricular, varsity level musical organization consisting of woodwinds, brass, percussion, and color guard. This program is one of pride, friendship, learning, positivity, diligence, and fun! We are one of the most visible aspects of the music department and enthusiastically support the athletic programs at WMCHS! Through the Marching Band, you will create memorable experiences that will last you a lifetime! We perform an energetic field show at all varsity football games and play upbeat popular music in the stands. Registration opens in the spring, and closes on the first day of Band Camp. A two-week long Band Camp takes place 2 weeks before the first day of school where we learn marching fundamentals, our show music, and bond through team building activities! Rehearsals during the school-year take place every Monday and Wednesday from 7pm-9pm and on select Fridays from September through November. Anyone who plays an instrument or wants to be in color guard is welcome to participate regardless of ability, previous experience, or skill level. There is no audition or experience required! Opportunities for student leadership include Section Leader, Color Guard Captain, and Drum Major. A varsity letter in Marching Band can be earned after successfully completing two years in the group. WMR Symphony
The West Morris Regional Symphony ensemble is open to students in grades 9 - 12 of both Central and Mendham HS. It is open to students who play flute, piccolo, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, timpani, percussion, harp, violin, viola, cello, and double bass. It rehearses weekly on Thursdays, from 7 - 8:30 PM. Semester 1 rehearsals and concerts are at Central HS, and Semester 2 rehearsals and concerts are at Mendham HS. This is an auditioned ensemble. World Language Honor Society
The World Language Society (Société Honoraire de Français, Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, 中文荣誉学会Chinese Honor Society) membership is by application only based on overall scholastic achievement (3.4) and weighted GPA (4.2) in French, Chinese or Spanish. In order to apply, students must be of junior or senior status, must have completed at least two full years of language study, and must be currently enrolled in a language class (the same language for all three years). Student-elected officers conduct the monthly meetings in the target language. The WLHS members provide peer tutoring, promote in-school activities, and support local and/or global community service organizations.

Yearbook
Our school yearbook club supports the yearbook class in the development of the yearbook club by capturing candids, attending events, creating page spreads and fact checking information. Creating our school yearbook is a true learning experience like no other in the school. You are dealing with real businesses, real deadlines, and real work to put out a real product at the end of the year. After determining a theme, the yearbook staff gets to work turning blank pages into a phenomenal memory book for students to enjoy now and in the future. Our yearbook has been the recipient of many awards on both the state and national level. Students interested in participating in the yearbook club should see Ms. Critchley.
